Homework: February 27 and 28

Hello everyone!   Welcome back from break!

We are finishing up with Hiroshima today and tomorrow.   As we finish with our text, think about the stories told by the survivors of Hiroshima.

For Homework:  Take these days as time to reflect and regroup.  Below are prompts for writing. Monday, you answer the writing prompts.  Tuesday, interview someone at home asking the same questions.  How are your answers the same?  How are they different?

Today in class we discuss legacies.

A legacy is someone who has had an impact or effect.

A legacy can be negative or positive.

For example:  
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is an example of a positive legacy.
Hitler is an example of a negative legacy.

For homework:  Work with someone at home to answer the following questions.

Level 1:  Ask a family who they think is an example of:

Why did you select these two people?

Today we discussed MLK and his approach to violence.  We compared it to the acts we have seen throughout history.

Level 3:  Who is someone you think is a model citizen?  Give a rubric in which you rated this person.

Today we talked about idioms.  

An idiom is a saying that help explain things about life.

The phrases are often times silly and can create a picture in you head. 

For example: It's raining cats and dogs

Does this mean it is really raining cats and dogs?  No, it means that it is raining really hard.

Feb 6th and 7th we  will be reading about Mr. Tanimoto.  Mr. Tanimoto is one of the 6 characters from Hiroshima.  As we learn about Mr. Tanimoto, we realize he is a self-less man who goes out of his way to help others.

For homework:  Each day pick one person you think is helpful and/trustworthy.  (Please pick a different person for each day)
